Simon was a religious Brother in the Congregation of the Cross.  Later he discerned that God was calling him to the priesthood.  With the permission of his superior and his Bishop, Simon joined the Major Seminary for formation toward priesthood. Simon's parents work in Kalacharra Tea Garden, and the family suffers from extreme poverty (their daily wage is only $1.46).  Out of 4 brothers and three sisters, Simon is the second oldest.  He is an average student and is very good at playing basketball, and he sings very well.  He is a promising student for the future priesthood.

After his father's passing, Sopnil decided to put all of his faith in the Lord and become a priest after he finished his schooling.
