Sick Patients in Bangladesh Receive Essential Healthcare from PIME USA Supporters

Published Thu, Aug 29, 24. Written by Kathleen Connors.

Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries in the world with an extremely precarious national healthcare system. As public institutions are becoming increasingly more privatized, the most vulnerable segments of the population are being excluded from the most basic services.

The PIME Missionaries in Bangladesh have operated the Sick Assistance Center for many years, recently moving the Center to within the compound of the PIME House in Dhaka.  In late 2022, PIME Missionary Fr. Gian Battista Zanchi requested the assistance of the PIME U.S. Mission Center and its supporters to provide care to needy patients for several years. Fr. Zanchi recently updated us that thanks to the annual support of $8,138 from PIME USA supporters,  the Center cared for almost 700 patients in the last year and hopes to increase their assistance each year!  Your help provided poor patients with healthcare options locally or at central hospitals for lifesaving procedures and testing, healthcare professionals, and food and travel expenses.

Aside from alleviating physical suffering, your assistance is a great witness to the Gospel in this majority Islamic country as help is provided regardless of ethnic group, language, or religion. Thank you for bringing Christ to the vulnerable who need Him!

Holy Spirit Seminary Theology Wing Completed

Published Sun, Jun 03, 18. Written by Kathleen Connors.

The Rector of the Holy Spirit Seminary in Dhaka, Bangaldesh, Fr. Emmanuel Rozario, has informed us that the construction project of the new Theology Wing has been completed.  The donors of the PIME Mission Center provided financial support for equipment and furniture for the new Theology Wing, for which he is grateful.   Your donations allowed for the procurement of 76 doors, 122 windows, electrical goods and furniture (51 chair & table sets and 51 beds) for the new wing. Your support of the project has created livable, usable facilities to accommodate more seminarians and lay leaders in the growth of the Church in Bangladesh.

The Catholic Bishop's Conference of Bangladesh started the National Major Seminary in Mathis House at Notre Dame College on August 23, 1973. The National Major Seminary was transferred to its own premises at Banani, Dhaka, on August 17, 1976. While celebrating its Silver Jubilee in 1999, the name of the National Major Seminary was changed to Holy Spirit Major Seminary. A total of 345 priests have received their formation from the Holy Spirit Major Seminary as of January 2017. The new wing will enable the Seminary to accommodate more seminarians for their formation to the priesthood.
