Algeria is in Northern Africa and has a population of about 45 million. Islam is the majority and state religion and Christians here are a minority. Of the population, .01-.02% are Catholic with about 60 Catholic priests in around 30 parishes.

PIME Missionary Fr. Davide Carraro was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Oran, Algeria, at the end of 2023. The Fr. Pierre Claverie Centre is located in the heart of Bishop Carraro’s Diocese and is the most important Catholic Center in the area. It is the place where Blessed Pierre Claverie is buried and a vital place for promoting dialogue between cultures and religions. Seeing a great need to strengthen the efforts of the Center, Bishop Carraro reached out to the PIME U.S. Mission Center with a project for support. $5,556 is needed for the reception and accommodation of those welcomed at the Center such as church members, migrants, rural travelers, or Sub-Saharan students.

The Fr. Pierre Claverie Center promotes fraternity and harmony between those of different generations and cultures, among different Christian denominations, between Christians and Muslims, and among those of different social classes. Through a message of the love that dwells in us all, all are welcomed at the Center. Your support for this project will promote unity among people and religions in Algeria at a time when it is most needed.
