Guinea-Bissau’s health system faces severe limitations, reflected in persistently high maternal and infant mortality. Although the infant mortality rate has declined in recent years, it still has the highest rate compared to similar countries. Isolated areas are particularly affected leading to dangerous delays in accessing care.
PIME Missionary Fr. Stephen Khu Du helps to coordinate the Mothers’ Home clinic in Bafatá, which is committed to providing care to reduce maternal and infant mortality. Recently, with the help of PIME U.S. Supporters, the PIME U.S. Mission Center was able to fund a similar project on the west side of the country, in São Domingos. Mothers’ Home provides comprehensive, preventive care for pregnant women, new mothers, and newborns by offering medical staff, screenings, nutritious meals, hygiene supplies, medicines, and health education. Fr. Stephen needs $25,677 to continue supporting the health and wellbeing of the mothers and infants in Bafatá. Will you provide life-saving care to mothers and babies in Guinea-Bissau?
