The MDP Medical Fund exclusively supports medical needs in PIME’s missions. These needs vary from assisting those suffering with Hansen’s disease (leprosy), AIDs/HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition, to providing hospital equipment, medical clinics and many other medical needs the poor face worldwide.
The MDP Medical Fund highlights the mercy and healing of Jesus’ words to the sick, the oppressed and the poor: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Mt 11:28). In these words Pope Francis tells us that “they depend entirely on God and, beneath the burden of their trials, stand in need of his healing. Jesus does not make demands of those who endure situations of frailty, suffering and weakness, but offers his mercy and his comforting presence. He looks upon a wounded humanity with eyes that gaze into the heart of each person. That gaze is not one of indifference; rather, it embraces people in their entirety, each person in his or her health condition, discarding no one, but rather inviting everyone to share in his life and to experience his tender love.”
We thank all those able to contribute to this fund on a one-time or continued basis. Through this medical support we thank you for looking into the heart of each person, discarding no one, and sharing the comforting presence of Jesus’ love with others.

Missionary Sister of the Immaculate Sr. Lucia Cavallo, MDI-PIME, and her fellow sisters work in Northern Cameroon and devote much of their time to caring for the health of the local people. The PIME sisters have been here since the late 1970s and manage the Bibemi Dispensary in the Diocese of Garoua. The city of Garoua is 50 miles away making the dispensary the only healthcare option for the geographically isolated population.
The local people rely on agriculture for survival, and a lack of rainfall can result in failed harvests, leaving many without food or access to healthcare. Financially disadvantaged and often malnourished individuals frequently seek assistance for medical treatment and lab tests, highlighting the urgent need for support within the community.
With your help, in late 2022, Sr. Lucia started a medical fund of $5,000 to provide annual help to poor patients at the clinic who cannot afford basic care. In the past year, the sisters provided exams, medications, and medical testing for several hundred patients in the area. Thank you for helping the sisters provide essential treatments and support to their patients!

In September, we updated you that contributions from the PIME MDP Medical fund for $2,700 had been immediately distributed to the Bethlehem Foundation in Cameroon to help little Blandine have much needed surgery for hydrocephalus (water on the brain). Thanks to your support of PIME’s Medical Fund, you have made a difference in the life of little Blandine. PIME lay missionary Francesca Bellota, who works at the Bethlehem Center, has let us know that the surgery to drain the excess fluid in Blandine’s skull was done right away. And she informed us that Blandine no longer has constant fevers and has shown some improvement since the surgery.
Without your assistance, Blandine’s mother, Diane, and her family could not have afforded such an operation, which had to be paid for in advance. They are grateful to their PIME USA supporters for their sustaining support for medical needs such as Blandine’s. Thanks to your continued compassion and care, she has a chance for a better life! Thank you for bringing the healing love of Christ to the most vulnerable among us in PIME’s missions.

Blandine is almost to her first birthday. She lives in the far North of Cameroon in Africa, where living conditions are harsh. She was born healthy in 2020, but started to show signs of hydrocephalus (water on the brain) at two months of age.
Blandine’s mother, Diane, cares for her with her grandmother as Blandine’s father abandoned them both. In September, Diane sought medical attention for Blandine at the surgical mission of the Bethlehem Foundation in Mouda. There the Foundation recognized Blandine’s serious condition and immediately contacted a neurosurgeon in Garoua, who made her diagnosis. It is a miracle that Blandine has lived to be almost one, but she now needs immediate surgery to help her condition. The operation will involve creating drainage for the excess fluid in her skull.
The cost of the surgery is more than Diane and her family can afford, and with no public health system, such procedures must be paid for in advance. Diane and Blandine needed $2,700 USD to pay for the operation, so the Bethlehem Foundation contacted the PIME Mission Center to help. Thanks to your support of PIME’s Medical Fund, your contributions were immediately distributed to the Bethlehem Foundation in Cameroon, which has made the arrangements for Blandine’s surgery. Thanks to your continued compassion and care for the most vulnerable among us, Blandine has a chance for a better life!
