Ah Sor Mi is part of a large family and they are poor. They live 45 miles from Hsipaw. Her father is a poor widower. He is a farmer. The grandparents of both sides are still living. At times of civil crises, this Man Pan village is full of underground armies, so the villagers worry about their children, especially the girls. Ah Sor Mi was studying before the military coup and then the schools closed for two years. This summer the sisters taught classes in Chinese, English and also taught Catechism.
